Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
